Bruce Stewart has served as Head of School at Sidwell Friends School in Washington, DC since 1998. Born and raised in Massachusetts, he received a Bachelor of Arts degree in economics from Guilford College and a Masters of Education from the University of North Carolina. His professional career began as Dean of Student Affairs at North Carolina School for the Arts. He then moved to Guilford College as Director of Admissions and held several positions there, including Assistant to the President, Acting Academic Dean, and Provost of the College. In 1984 he relocated to Pennsylvania to serve as Head of Abington Friends School for 14 years before coming to Sidwell Friends.
Mr. Stewart is married with three daughters and three grandsons. He serves on the Boards of Guilford College, Bullis School, Friends Council on Education, and the National Association of Independent Schools (NAIS).
